After watching tons of spin-offs of my favorite shows, I can confidently say one thing: spin-offs are either too good or too bad; there’s no in-between. Also, chances are rare that a spin-off series would be as good as the original story and people would love it the same way they loved the original one.

That said, I’ve made a list of a few spin-off series that I believe are as good as the original ones, if not better. Plus, these spin-offs have established a separate fan base of their own. So, if you want to know more about the best spin-off shows, read on:

Boruto

Spun From: Naruto Shippuden

Before Naruto, I hated anime. Like most people who don’t know much about anime, I considered anime as cartoons for “grown-ups”. Well, Naruto and Naruto Shippuden were a treat to watch and surely developed my taste in anime.

Anyway, Naruto Shippuden’s end marked the start of Boruto, and trust me, Naruto fans couldn’t be happier. Although Naruto’s characters like Naruto himself, Sasuke, Kakashi, and others play their part in Boruto, the spotlight is on the younger generation of these characters.

Also, Boruto is nearing its completion and who knows Kishimoto comes up with another spin-off (I hope that happens). Till then, Boruto is one of the finest spin-offs and you should definitely watch it.

Tidbit: Do you know the Naruto franchise, including Boruto is available on Netflix? Yes, you’ve heard it right! Just make sure to have a solid internet connection so there’s no buffering whatsoever. My personal choice is Spectrum Internet as it always offers speeds for a seamless experience on any streaming platform.

Better Call Saul

Spun From: Breaking Bad

Breaking Bad is one of the most highly-rated shows and producing its spin-off was a risky proposition. Simply because Better Call Saul had to meet the standard of Breaking Bad, which I didn’t think was possible.

Featuring Bob Odenkirk, Jonathan Banks, Giancarlo Esposito, and a few others from Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul was as good as its predecessor, if not good. The story revolves around Saul Goodman and importantly, Better Call Saul explains how Gustavo Fring got rid of the Salamancas.

And not just this, Goodman’ story is one to witness because in Better Call Saul, you’ll experience how Saul Goodman became the top criminal lawyer in Albuquerque. Now, I think I should stop here because if I tell you more, I might spoil all the fun.

House of the Dragon

Spun From: Game of Thrones

A Game of Thrones sequel or prequel was always on the cards because the original series had so many unexplored questions. Where did the dragons come from? Who was the first king? How the three-eyed rave was born? Well, the list is long and thankfully, all these intriguing questions are answered in House of the Dragon.

House of the Dragon is a prequel spin-off of Game of Thrones with major houses, like the Targaryens, Starks, and more in the series. However, a major portion of the story revolves around the Targaryens as they’re the most powerful house in the series.

That said, Game of Thrones was full of twists and turns, and I’m expecting the same from this series. And you know what? Fans may also witness Robert’s Rebellion when he overthrew the Mad King with the help of Ned Stark. So, chances are bright that we may get to see some notable characters from Game of Thrones in House of the Dragon.

Bonus Section: Some More Spin-Offs to Watch

While I can recommend several other spin-offs to watch, below is a brief overview of some of the best shows you should watch:

The Jeffersons – Spun from All in the Family

One of the most iconic sitcoms – All in the Family had a lot of humor and wittiness while you may not see much of it in its spin-off; The Jeffersons. This spin-off talked about controversial issues like mental health, addiction, and more, engagingly.

Star Trek: The Next Generation – Spun from Star Trek: The Original Series

Star Trek: The Next Generation is as good as the Star Trek: The Original Series. This spin-off expanded the original story with a lot more twists and throughout seven seasons, there isn’t a single dull moment in the whole series.
