The War of the Rohirrim 2024

At the start of the film, Miranda Otto reprises her role as the shieldmaiden Éowyn, delivering a narration that sets the stage. She reveals that the story takes place roughly two centuries earlier. The kingdom of Rohan, ruled by the formidable Helm Hammerhand and his children—Hama, Haleth, and Héra—is in a state of decline. Tensions escalate when Freka, the leader of the Dunlendings, challenges Helm’s authority and proposes a marriage between his son, Wulf, and Héra to unite their feuding factions. However, the strong-willed Héra, reminiscent of Miyazaki heroines like Nausicaä, rejects the proposal. Viewing Wulf as nothing more than a friend, she remains uninterested in the pursuit of royal power.
